The seasons are changing and it's that time of year where the changes are a bit more dramatic.
For those of us who live on the temperate side of the globe, we notice the not so subtle changes in the natural world around us - cooler temperatures, the beginnings of rainy weather, shorter days and longer nights and, my favourite feature of all that takes my breath away every time – the turning of the leaves!
I leave my shutters open for longer these days because I want to get the maximum amount of natural light that i can - both for me and my indoor plants. I also love to look out the window and watch how nature changes with the seasons; and with the changes in colours outside, it is extremely tempting to bring some of that gorgeous Autumn feeling indoors.
If you are feeling like I'm feeling, here are a few things that you can do to your interior space to add a little Autumn cheer.
The hallmark of Autumn is the awesome symphony of deep green, burnt orange, yellow and brown hues.
If you are re-decorating or re-designing your space, it is always a great idea to keep your palette neutral and then layer with colours, patterns and textures. That way, you have created for yourself a timeless space that you can change with the seasons, without doing any major overhaul. If you are not redesigning your space, never fear. Simple tweaks here and there that are easy to do and won't break the bank, can easily transform and update your space.
Bring the outside in
Adding plant or flower arrangements in browns, oranges and yellows very quickly brightens up the gloom of sunless days. Don't be afraid to include a couple of branches- they add to the charm of your arrangement. If you're not a fresh cut flower person, a potpourri arrangement does the job pretty well; and on top of that, it comes with a nice fragrance profile too.
Another way to bring the outside in without overhauling your space is by introducing natural textures and organic patterns in the form of throw pillows, throws and rugs.
This beautiful geometric lumbar pillow and this one here are textural and bring in the colours of autumn.
Add a touch of gold or brass
What pairs nicely with burnt orange and deep green? Gold! If you are feeling adventurous, why not go all out and make a feature wall in a beautiful forest green, contrasted with a touch of gold, brass or a bold yellow chair or sofa? That will infuse your interior space with instant Autumn glamour.
Warm up your space with candles
I absolutely love candles. They bring so much warmth to my space, and there is something about the way candlelight flickers that creates a truly calming experience for me. Imagine the feeling you get when you are either out camping at night or sat by the fire on a cold day.
If you have kids or are nervous about setting your house on fire with candles, buy candleholders. I love this set here.
That's it folks! A couple things that I am sure to introduce it to my space this season; and perhaps even up my candlelight game :-)
Do you have any ideas? I would love to hear them here :-)
Thank you for reading. Stay curious and stay awesome!
